Language Arts "Words are wise men's counters, they do reckon by them."
Read, read, read! Language arts is emphasized in all the subject areas. We even have an extra time called, "sustained reading." Children have an enriched vocabulary, understand more of the world around them, and are creatively involved in the wonderful life of books. This is our goal: to love to read. All the genres are explored: poetry, biography, autobiography, mythology, tall tales, mystery, short stories, and so on. Literary analysis, reading comprehension, research skills, writing, public speaking, grammar and punctuation, vocabulary and spelling, and appreciation of authors are all included in this program. If you are a storyteller, we need you! Make literature come alive for the middle school children of TMCS… "Evermore." Science Hands-on scientific method experiments are the key to the middle school science program. Students use the inquiry method to understand the concepts presented. Safety in the lab, following the scientific method, and using lab equipment properly highlight the studies of the heart, oceans, photosynthesis, atoms, chemistry, and physics content. The climax to these studies is a science fair for grades 3-8 for which each student prepares and presents an experiment. These are judged and the winners go on to the regional competition at Western Carolina University. |
